Job Title:  Network Specialist I

 

Wage/Hour Status:  Nonexempt

 

Pay Group:  S45 Salary Plan

 

Primary Purpose: Perform moderately complex computer system support work which involves installing, configuring and supporting an organization's local area network (LAN) and network computer systems. Maintain network hardware and software.

 

Qualifications

 

Education/Certification/Experience:

 

 

Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.

 

Two years full-time wage-earning network support experience.

 

Each year of relevant education at the undergraduate level may be substituted for each year of required experience. 

 

This position requires personal technology that will enable the completion of job duties and responsibilities when working remotely.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

 

Ability to work with computers, operating systems, networks and install application software. Knowledge of Windows, Linux/Unix, and Operating Systems is preferred.

 

Knowledge of network communication and protocols.

 

Knowledge of the installation of network and computer (desktop/server) hardware.

 

Ability to distinguish between hardware and software problems in computer and network systems.

 

Skilled in effective communication and the ability to assist employees in the use of computer equipment and software.

 

Ability to work under frequent supervision and direction.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

1. Travel to Windham campuses to perform computer system support and network management functions as needed and/or assigned.

 

2. Assist the supervisor with the installation, configuration and troubleshooting computer hardware and software.

 

3. Assist users in changing passwords, utilizing appropriate software and accessing network services and resources. 

 

4. Assist the supervisor with the installation, configuration and troubleshooting of basic components of a local area network (LAN), including but not limited to switches, and network cables.

 

5. Perform other duties as assigned.

6. Maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information received in the performance of the job duties.

 

7. Perform duties in a professional manner through daily, punctual attendance at location of work assignment.

 

8. Follow Windham School District policies and procedures in completing assigned job duties.

 

9. Execute duties in a professional, ethical and responsible manner as defined in 19 TAC Chapter 247, Code of Ethics and Standard. Practices for Texas Educators.

Work inside and outside, noise, radiant/electrical energy, work alone, work with others, around machines with moving parts and objects, possible exposure to microwaves in use, exposure to hot and cold temperatures, exposure to dust and cleaning chemicals.
